Description

The Hamilton Billfold is a minimalist take on a classic wallet.  Made from two sturdy pieces of four ounce Dublin leather from The Horween Leather Company, The Hamilton maintains a slim profile while giving you plenty of room to stash your bills and cards. The two internal slots can fit a few cards each and the bill slot can accompany a wad of cash.

The Dublin leather is a gorgeous deep brown with an eye catching pull up effect, that gives the wallet amazing character right out of the box.  The burnished edges provide a dynamic contrast with the leather, but also provide the wallet with even greater durability.

Each wallet is hand sewn in Denver, Colorado with waxed Irish linen thread.  This wallet is built to last a lifetime and will look more beautiful as it ages.

Alexander Hamilton

Who better to name a wallet for than the first Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, Alexander Hamilton.  Not only was he the first Secretary of the Treasury, but he also helped found the US financial system, was the founder of the first US political party, was chief staff aide to General George Washington, and was a tireless proponent of the US Constitution.  He wrote 51 of the 85 installments of the Federalist papers, which to this day are the single most important interpretation of the constitution.

Hamilton's life was not a privileged one, at least not to start out with.  Born out of wedlock in the West Indies, his mother past away when he was 11 years old, effectively orphaning young Alexander.  Alexander's quick mind and work ethic landed him opportunities for education in North America.  As a teenager, he wrote a detailed account of a hurricane that devastated the town he lived in, in 1772.  The story impressed communities leaders, who collectively helped Alexander get to North America where he eventually studied at King's College in New York, and after his studies became a lawyer.

Hamilton's proactive nature and inquisitive mind provided further opportunities and led him to being one of America's founding fathers.  Hamilton's influence and dedication to the United States and its constitution is still felt to this day

About Winter Session

Winter Session began as a side project in designer and co-founder Tanya and Toy's industrial apartment in Chicago, in 2010.  They were both working in the city in creative capacities, but wanted to spend more time working with their hands and exploring their own ideas in addition to the other businesses and projects they were involved in. Over the next few years, Winter Session evolved organically, as they experimented with different materials, added leather to their expanding repertoire and brought on outside hands to help. In early 2013, in an effort to move back to their roots, they moved the business to Denver, Colorado, the state both of them call home, and created a dedicated workshop and more permanent team. The creative community and overall growth and development in Denver has been an excited benefit, a community that is dynamic, supportive and collaborative.

The design of Winter Session's products is a very thoughtful process.  They design each product carefully, drawing on experience with architecture, textiles, design and world travels. They also find inspiration in their own multi-faceted lives as young business owners: the need for products that are at once versatile, functional, long-lasting and beautiful, which is important to creating a well-rounded life.  Another important element in Winter Session's design is to tread lightly, and use eco-friendly materials and processes.

In asking Winter Session what makes their products or processes unique, they replied, "We use a combination of traditional techniques - stitching handles and wallets by hand, with stitching ponies and waxed linen thread - and modern technologies: laser cutting and etching, AutoCAD patterning to create our products. We also embrace some philosophies that are age-old but coming back in vogue as many people are more conscious of the resources we use, both as producers and consumers. At Winter Session, we choose vegetable tanned leather, which uses natural botanical materials to treat the leather, as opposed to the speedier, but more resource-intensive chrome processing that makes up a vast majority of commercially-used leather.

Winter Session is a standout company that produces hand made and unique products and does so in a responsible manner.
