The Hutson Football is a marvel of beautiful design and meticulous craftsmanship. The dynamic, blue, full grain, chromexcel leather from The Horween Leather Company is stunning to look at, but is very functional as well. The leather is sewn together over a butyl rubber bladder with marine grade, white polyester thread by skilled craftsman in Glen Rock, New Jersey. The Hutson can be displayed in an office with style or played with every Saturday and in that annual Turkey bowl.

A Little History
Don Hutson was a star football player for the Green Bay Packers from 1935 through 1945. Credited with many of the modern pass routes that the NFL uses today, Hutson held most receiving records when he retired in 1945. Not initially regarded as a top recruit after graduating from the University of Alabama because of his thin stature, the Packers took a chance on the wiry Hutson. In his first ever play he caught an 83 yard touchdown pass from Arnie Herber, setting a precedent of great things to come. Not only was Hutson the Packer’s star receiver, but he was also their kicker for most of his career, scoring 172 extra points and 7 field goals. Many of Hutson’s records lasted for decades, and like the longevity of his records, the Hutson Football will last you many great seasons to come.
Here's The Story
What do you get when you cross a former photo editor for Major League Baseball and an avid leather craftsman? You get a fun and zany company that crafts some of the finest sports balls and goods in America.
Paul Cunningham, the proprietor of Leather Head Sports, is a native son of Cooperstown, New York (home of The Hall of Fame of Major League Baseball), so it is no surprise that he has a passion for baseball and sports in general. A long time sports industry professional, Paul has had the opportunity of working with the greatest baseball photographers in the world. All of this sports experience and passion for the game has lead Paul to a passion of creating some special and unique leather goods.
Paul’s first run at creating his fine leather goods came when he founded Cunningham Classics, where he developed the Lemon Ball and Leather Head footballs. With a focus on old world craftsmanship and high attention to detail, Paul was fulfilling his dream and what he felt was his calling. Leather Head’s products are not your run of the mill footballs, baseballs, and other leather goods. Their products are not even your run of the mill upper end goods. Leather Head uses the finest leathers and materials available, and produce the best goods possible in their own shop in Glen Rock, New Jersey, using time tested practices and craftsmanship. The result are products so fantastic that they are beautiful enough to encase in a display, but functional enough to play with every day. These are goods that are durable enough that your kids will be teaching their kids with the same balls.
When we asked Leather Head what’s makes their goods or processes unique, they replied:
All products are made by hand by skilled craftspeople....and we sprinkle magic dust on all of our balls during the production process. AND we keep a fully stocked bar, which sadly never gets used because we are too busy, but just knowing it’s there is enough. When we can, we like to test the spirals on the footballs. Of course, that's not an official process, the "testers" just like to have a little play time. We are a small tight knit group that loves to go to work everyday.
Zany? Yes, but Leather Head is one of those rare companies that really love bringing the best products to those who really appreciate high quality, and have a blast doing it.
